Most people never need this. Two situations make it worth the money.
Genzel runs camera inspections across McKinney and Collin County under Texas license RMP-23766.
You watch the same screen we do. The camera shows the material of the pipe, its condition, root intrusion, offsets at joints, bellies where water sits, and cracks. We record what we find, so the condition of the line is documented rather than described from memory.

A clear line means the recurring clog is being caused at the fixture rather than in the pipe. That is worth paying to find out. We would rather hand you a boring answer than sell you a repair the footage does not support.
If the line is sound, you have documentation. If it is not, you have footage showing the condition of the pipe and what we found, which is what a sensible quote is built on, and what you need if you are negotiating on a house.
You get the price before we start. If the inspection leads to work, we will tell you what that work is with options and prices, and the decision stays yours.
Should I get a sewer scope before buying an older house?
On a house of any age with mature trees or original cast iron, yes. It is a small cost against the risk, and a bad result is something you can negotiate with while you still have leverage.
Can you tell how bad it is from the footage?
Condition, material and what has gone wrong, yes. Whether a line needs replacing or cleaning is usually clear. What the footage cannot tell you is how soil and depth will affect the cost of fixing it, which is a separate assessment.
Does a camera work if the line is completely blocked?
Not until it is opened enough for the camera to pass. Sometimes we clear first and inspect second, which also lets us see the pipe rather than the blockage.
