A tankless unit heats water as it passes through, so you are not paying to keep forty gallons hot overnight and you do not run out mid shower. They last longer than tank heaters and take up a fraction of the space. They are also less forgiving of bad sizing and hard water, which is where most of the complaints come from.
Genzel installs and repairs tankless water heaters across Collin County under Texas license RMP-23766.
A tankless unit is rated by how many gallons per minute it can raise to temperature. Undersize it and two showers at once will disappoint you. We size on how many fixtures you actually run together and on incoming water temperature in winter, not on the square footage of the house.

Hard water leaves scale inside the heat exchanger. Scale means less flow, longer heating, error codes and eventually a failed unit that the manufacturer may not warrant. Descaling once a year keeps that from happening. If your tankless has slowed down or started throwing codes, descaling is usually the first thing to try, not replacement.
Pairing a tankless unit with water filtration or softening slows scale down considerably, which is worth thinking about at install time rather than three years later.
You get the options and pricing before we start, with Good, Better, Best choices, and financing is available. A tankless conversion is a bigger job than a like for like tank swap because of gas and venting requirements, and we will explain exactly what your house needs before you commit.

Why does my hot water go cold then hot again?
That is the cold water sandwich, and it happens when the unit restarts between short draws. It is normal to a degree, but a recirculation setup or a small buffer tank reduces it considerably.
My tankless is throwing an error code. Is it finished?
Usually not. Most codes point at ignition, flow, venting or scale, and most are repairable. Get the code read before anyone quotes you for a new unit.
How often does a tankless need descaling in North Texas?
Once a year for most homes here, because the water is hard. Skipping it is the most common reason a tankless underperforms and then fails early.
Can I run two showers at once?
Only if the unit was sized for it. This is the single most common disappointment with tankless, and it is a sizing decision made at installation rather than a fault with the technology.
