Gas work is licensed work

Genzel holds Texas license RMP-23766, and gas piping falls under it. Family-owned in McKinney since 2001. Gas is not a category where you shop on price or let an unlicensed handyman near it.

What we do

• Locate and repair leaks in existing gas lines
• Pressure test lines, including the test the city or your utility asks for
• New runs for a gas range, dryer, outdoor grill, fire pit or pool heater
• Sizing and extending lines when you add an appliance
• Capping lines safely when an appliance is removed

Sizing is not optional

Adding an appliance to a line that was sized for fewer changes the pressure available to everything on it. A range that will not hold a flame, or a water heater that struggles once the dryer runs, is often a sizing problem rather than an appliance problem.

What a pressure test tells you

We isolate the line, bring it up to pressure and watch whether it holds. A line that loses pressure has a leak somewhere along it even when nothing is detectable by smell, and the test is what turns a suspicion into a location. It is also what a city inspector wants to see on new work.

Permits and inspection

New gas runs and most repairs are permitted and inspected work. We pull the permit and meet the inspector. This is the part unlicensed work skips, and it is the part that fails a sale.

Gas questions we get asked

I can smell gas faintly near the range. Is that normal?
No. A faint persistent smell is a reason to shut the appliance off at its valve and have the line tested. Gas has an odorant added precisely so that you notice small leaks, so trust your nose.

Can you run a line to my outdoor grill?
Yes, that is a common job. The run, the sizing and the permit are all straightforward once we have seen where the meter is and where you want the connection.

Why does my new appliance not work properly on the existing line?
Usually because the line was sized for the load it had, not the load it has now. Adding demand without resizing leaves everything on that line short of pressure.
